Prehispanic vestiges that show the step and life of indigenous civilizations. One of the most outstanding is Joya de Cerén (World Heritage of Humanity), known as the Pompeii of America, which shows how they lived, how they ate, how they slept, beliefs and architecture of a Mayan population of 1400 years ago. All because of a volcanic eruption that I buried and conserved in ashes an agricultural community.
But something special and that will make your experience unique, is the contact with people. As they say: Salvadorans are kind to not being able to, they always offer to help you with a smile that seems to escape their faces. People who struggle to earn their daily bread with the sweat of their brow and the pain of their bones, but always ready to help you.
I know we have problems with delinquency, like any other Latin American country. With basic security measures and common sense, your stay will be fabulous, and we are sure that you will want to return.
Cheer up, give El Salvador a try, and find out what you have to offer.

Thinking about visiting El Salvador on your next vacation, you have been attracted by its natural wealth, its imposing active volcanoes, relax in its beautiful volcanic sand beaches ideal for surfing, breathe the pure air of its protected forests. Experience the history preserved by our archaeological sites, walk in our picturesque colonial towns.
Let’s see what Shane O and his family thinks of their experience in El Salvador:
But … what about security, is it dangerous? What language is spoken? What is the local currency? Which transports can I choose? How’s the weather? What should I bring? These and other questions we will answer below to make your stay in the smallest country in Central America simply … UNFORGETTABLE !!!
Let’s start with the most intriguing of visitors: Security
To have a unique and memorable experience it is necessary to follow some recommendations, and of course, your common sense, as in any other country in Latin America, El Salvador has delinquency problems, therefore you will have to take precautions similar to the ones you take in other countries. For example, when walking down the street do not use valuables in sight, as you can catch the attention of thieves. Do not show large sums of money in public. Also do not use public transport in the wee hours of the night and use taxis recommended by your hotel.
But what about the gangs or the famous maras we see in the news on TV, or the Internet? Of course there is this delinquency phenomenon, but we have the advantage that, as in any other country, there are places within the cities that you know should not go for your safety, drug trafficking places and illegal arms sales. And these groups are in delimited places, marginal areas where the locals already know that you should not visit. Tourists at no time have been targeted by these criminal groups.
What about deaths reported on a daily basis?
We dare say that probably 95% of the 10 or 12 homicides reported daily are from people who are involved in gangs, directly or indirectly.
However. Who can enter El Salvador?
The citizens of most countries, only need to have their passport with at least six months of validity, so they can stay in the country as tourists, even for 3 months.
All countries of South America and Africa, as well as Panama require for admission, that the visitor has been vaccinated against Yellow Fever fifteen (15) days prior to travel.
Since 2001, El Salvador has adopted the US dollar (US $) as the legal currency, and it should be taken into account that most establishments accept tickets up to $ 20.00 without difficulty, whereas it is very difficult for them to accept $ 50.00 or $ 100.00, for fear they may be fake.
The language in El Salvador is Spanish, spoken throughout the country. Our original language, Nahuatl, is spoken by less than 1% of the population, a language that is in the process of being rescued. English
El Salvador has the largest ATM network in Central America, easy to access at any shopping center, gas stations and also in Supermarkets. Most running 24/7
Internet access is extremely easy, most hotels offer their guests Internet access. Likewise in shopping malls and in most restaurants, for free.
It is recommended to leave 10%, but some restaurants and bars already include the amount of the gratuity in the account
Clothing suitable to take to El Salvador
Finally wear light clothing and rain gear during the winter. Swimsuit you can use without problem throughout the year. Warm clothing should be worn only for the highest altitude areas.
