Cihuatán Archaeological Site, one of the most important archaeological treasures of El Salvador.
With an extension of almost 3 square kilometers, Cihuatán is designated as the great archaeological site of the country.
The ancient city of Cihuatán emerged after the mysterious “Mayan collapse” to become a regional capital between 900 and 1200 AD.
We will find in the place an informative Antonio Sol Museum, named after the first excavator archaeologist of the site, where the main findings of Cihuatán, as the man with a jaguar body, and the dog with wheels are exposed.
We will discover the great square and the central pyramid, areas dedicated to urban commerce. You can enjoy climbing to the Great Pyramid, which also served as a surveillance zone for its height, and its visual range
In addition we will have access to the ball park, which are a common feature in the Mesoamerican civilizations, where players faced death in honor of the deities. The seats of spectators are still preserved.
We will end the tour with a relaxing trip to a picturesque colonial town, Suchitoto. Place where history and culture is born, and time seems to have fallen asleep.
We will find cobbled streets, colonial houses, rich cultural traditions and beautiful panoramic views of Lake Suchitlán. You will enjoy a variety of amenities in this quiet city, including hotels and restaurants for all budgets, museums, art galleries and nightlife.
