Copan has become a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1980, undoubtedly one of the main attractions of Honduras.
The archaeological site of Copán was a City – State of an important Mayan kingdom between the 5th century and the 10th century with a strong link with Tikal of Guatemala.
After its abandonment, it was rediscovered in 1570 by Diego García de Palacio, If in doubt, due to its characteristics, Copan does not overlook within the Mayan world. The remains of the city preserved by time suggest 3 important construction periods, specifically before the city was desolate. One of the most important attractions of the site is the Hieroglyphic Steps Square, which has an imposing unique staircase within the Mayan culture. On the steps there are more than 1,250 individual glyphs, these glyphs have formed the largest Maya writing so far conceived. All this preserved because of the jungle, which covered the archeological site and preserved it until its discovery.

Las Sepulturas - Copán
Time to start our copan ruins day tour. Upon reaching copan and after having a light breakfast, we will go to the place known as Las Sepulturas. In recent times this place has provided important information on the life of the most important part of society, rulers of the Maya of Copan. The locals baptized the archeological site as Las Sepuluras (graves), because when they carried out their crops they were revealing the place where the nobles had been buried. It was a custom very present in the Mayas to bury their ancestors dentoro of their houses. So this place is really the place of room with rooms, kitchens and common outdoor spaces. No doubt this will give us a broad understanding of the life of the lords of Copan.

Copan Archeological Site Tour
After the visit to Las Sepulturas de Copan, we will go to the acropolis and the great square of Copan accompanied by our specialized guide. Upon entering the main square of copan the first thing that overwhelms you will be the amount of macaw birds that inhabit the site, considered a symbol of Honduras. You can see how the archeological site stands out from the Honduran jungle. We will visit the stelae, so far 21 stelae have been found with the writing of the Maya and we hope to continue finding more in the future. All with an altar by their side for bloodshed ceremonies. Some of them representing some of the 16 different kings of copan. We will visit the ball pack, as well as the pyramids one of them with a special staircase with more than 1250 different glyphs.
